Daily Diving
|
Our marina is located just on site to the
diving center, therefore there’s no hassle transporting the equipment
and no wasted time waiting. We can start the day off in a smooth way. |
 |
|
The boats we use are all in perfect
condition, clean and fully equipped with marine radio, oxygen, first aid
kit and spare equipment. There is a spacious equipment area and dive
platform, salon, sun deck, shower and toilets. The Egyptian crew is
known to be most friendly and helpful with taking your equipment on and
off. Each day we do 2 dives in a different location and provide for
lunch and drinks at a low cost.

 |
We take care to go to different sites
every day and there is always enough staff on the boat to guide you
around the reefs in small groups. For those divers comfortable to dive
alone, we give an elaborate briefing.
Furthermore we try to group the more experienced divers together on one
boat. For groups which are big enough, a private boat can be arranged at
the same cost. Friends or family who want to join the trip are most
welcome.
There is also a house-reef and WRECK
close to the center where you can dive by yourself with a buddy or
guided by a dive guide.
Night-dives can be made from the boat, if we are with 6 divers minimum,
or from the house-reef.
Interested in wrecks? You can choose to go for 1, 2 or more days up
north to dive in Abu Nahass and Thistlegorm.
After the diving there’s plenty of time to relax and have a drink, sit
together and discuss the days excitement on our terrace in front of the
center.

Below
we have made an overview, together with some explanation, of the
most important dive sites around Hurghada, from north to south. |
The diving area around Hurghada exists out of numerous islands which
shelter the boats from the wind on rough days. There is a big variety of
dive sites. We have shallow reefs with beautiful coral gardens and huge
drop offs and walls. During the last years HEPCA, the Hurghada
Environmental Protection and Conservation Association, has installed
mooring buoys around the reefs for their protection. A big part has also
become Marine Park Area. A lot of effort is being made to keep the
diving more than worth while.

Shaab El Erg
This place looks like a large horseshoe with many dive sites on all
sides. The dives are shallow and the whole area is full of life,
groupers, rays, unicorns... There is a possibility of seeing manta’s on
the North point around February/March and a group of dolphins all year
around in the lagoon.
Umm Gammar (27°21.155’N,
33°54.550’E)
This island is surrounded by good dive sites. To the south there is a
plateau with 3 small ergs on the corner, covered in glass fish. On the
plateau itself, you will encounter napoleons, morays, batfishes and an
occasional turtle. Towards the east and the west there are amazing drift
dives to do, where white tips pass by from time to time and with a lot
of caves along the wall. On the northern tip there is a wonderful coral
garden, but this place is only accessible in very good weather.
Shaab Ruhr Umm Gammar (27°11.550’N,
33°54.550’E)
This reef lies 1km south of Umm Gammar and offers 2 good dives. Make a
drift on the east side where the slope is steep and drops to great
depths, with possibilities of encountering reef sharks and big sized
groupers. Or you make a dive on the south plateau with the wreck and
drop off beyond it.
Careless Reef (27°18.700’N,
33°56.200’E)
This offshore reef consist of 2 big pinnacles rising from a shallow
plateau, surrounded by walls rising from the deep. As the area is
unprotected, this reef can only be reached in good weather.
In the north, the drop off is packed with coral and in the south, the
plateau has small pinnacles of coral. The whole place swarms with fish
of all types, giant morays as well as white tips and huge groupers.
Fanadir Island
El Fanadir is a long reef running from north to south. The reef wall
drops from the surface to 12m. Along this wall you will find almost all
the small fishes and other creatures which are present in the Red Sea.
The sandy slope which is more or less 50m wide is not so interesting.
The drop off which starts around 25 m goes down to more than 50m and if
you’re lucky you might see a manta or hammerhead passing by.
Shaab
Abu Nugar
This long T-shaped reef has a shallow plateau to the west with numerous
small ergs to the east. Diving takes place on the south-east ergs, Shaab
Iris and Abu Nugar. Some parts of this reef are perfect for beginners
while other parts offer superb shallow diving. The reef is composed of a
variety of hard corals.
El Fanous East
This narrow strip of reef surrounds a large lagoon. On its east side, a
wide channel splits the reef from the mainland and on its slopes, you'll
find a coral garden and 3 colourful pinnacles. It's not uncommon to see
dolphins here, so look around.
El Fanous West
The other end of the reef has 2 main ergs and several smaller pinnacles
off its west end. There is a nice drift dive to make here or, you can
follow the reef wall and explore the coral gardens full with life. Look
also here for the dolphins.
Turtle Bay
Going down, head for the channel and as you come to the reef wall,
ascend carefully to about 3m and cross over. Following the wall and on
the outside you can cross over again where you will find a lagoon, full
with beautiful coral and fish. There are morays, barracudas, groupers
and even a turtle to find.
Wreck of El Minya
This Egyptian minesweeper, sunk around 1969 by Israeli fighter planes,
lies close to the harbour at a depth of maximum 30m. The current can be
quite strong and the visibility poor, which gives the wreck a ghostly
look. The wreck is 70m long so there is plenty of time to explore
everything into detail, including the blast hole on the starboard, which
can be penetrated. The hole is full with glass fish and above the wreck
are schools of jacks and small barracudas.
Stone Beach (Hamda)
Hamda is situated on the northeast side of Big Giftung. The reef wall
drops to about 15m to a slope, ranging from 15m to the drop off at
around 30m. The drop off goes down to more than 50m. However, most of
the life and coral is to be found above 15m. Look also out to the big
blue where you’ll find triggerfish, tuna, snapper, barracudas and even
sharks and turtles.
Ben El Gebel
Ben El Gebel means ‘between the mountains’ and lies between Big and
Small Giftung. When the boat drops you on the northern side, you can
make a superb drift and have a big chance to see reef sharks and eagle
rays. Otherwise you dive around the 5 ergs that are clustered at the end
of the reef. At the west end of the reef you will find the first 3 ergs,
of which the northern one has some beautiful gorgonians. If you swim a
bit against the current to the northerly ergs, you will find plenty fish
and some overhangings full with glass fishes.
Banana Reef
This y-shaped reef lies in shallow water and can be dived from both
sides. There are some shallow caves on the northeast point and a
stunning erg on the northwest point. The whole area is home to banner
fish, puffers, emperor angelfishes and soft corals.
Shaab Sabrina
This shallow reef is best dived as a drift and is one of the most
beautiful coral gardens of Hurghada. To the north you’ll find the
attractive coral garden which extends north eastwards as a succession of
coral ridges and sand patches. There’s also a beautiful lagoon with an
entrance at 3m.
Erg Sabrina
Erg Sabrina is a small reef close to Shaab Sabrina. You can easily dive
around it a couple of times and you will find gardens of coral on the
east and west side and a small erg on the north side, full with glass
fishes.
Small Giftun (27°11.030’N,
33°58.530’E)
Several dives can be made here, from shallow to more deep. The best one
is a drift from north to south along the gorgonian wall which merges
further on with an extensive plateau, ranging from 25 to 15m. Along the
drop off there are occasionally turtles to be seen and sharks more early
in the morning. The plateau itself is full of life, with giant morays, a
bunch of napoleon fishes, crocodile fishes, rays, and all the smaller
fishes.
Abu Ramada Island
(27°09.784’N, 33°59.046’E)
There are many dives to do around this island. More specific, a drift
dive around the steep eastern wall with big fan corals and swim-troughs,
a drift dive north of the island, heading east to the drop off at 25m,
where you'll find a big cave, having a chimney up to 25m. Further more
you can dive on the eastern end where you’ll find some ergs with a lot
of life, a small wreck at 5m, napoleon fishes, sweet lips, squid, rays,
giant morays...
Gota Abu Ramada
(27°08.340’N, 33°57.196’E)
This reef, also called the aquarium, is surrounded by a sandy plateau at
12-15m. You can make great dives here, either on the east side where
there are a lot of pinnacles and beautiful hard coral or along the west
side where there are 3 large ergs. A drift dive from the north heading
south can also be done.
El Aruk
A bunch of ergs standing on a sandy seabed at 12m. At times there can be
a strong current. You can dive around these ergs any way you want but
take care to not get lost. The best thing to do is stay more shallow as
the life and colours are more beautiful there.
Shaab Magawish
This cluster of ergs stands in 10m of water with a sand bottom
surrounding them, full with small coral heads. You will find many small
reef fishes here and a turtle whose home is in a small cave on the
west end of the main erg.
Ras Disha
There is a shallow plateau here where you’ll find big ergs which are
superb. The most northerly has a large cavern, filled with glass fishes.
Around on the bottom there are crocodile fish, stonefish, rays... To the
north, past the beacon, there is also a drop off which is best done
drifting.
Abu Hashish
The dive site here is at the south end of the island. You have to pass a
channel to find a wonderful coral and pinnacle landscape. A drift can be
made along the eastern wall with a good chance of seeing big fishes in
the blue.
Sharm El Arab
This steep wall plunges from the reef table to the sand bottom,
something like 50m below. There are small caves, numerous reef fish and
there is a chance to spot grey reef sharks. Best done as a drift
direction south.
